Call To Worship

Prayer:

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

SONG: COME THOU LONG EXPECTED JESUS

Come, Thou long expected Jesus

Born to set Thy people free
From our fears and sins release us

Let us find our rest in Thee

Israel’s Strength and Consolation

Hope of all the earth Thou art

Dear Desire of every nation
Joy of every longing heart

Come, Thou mighty, humble Savior
God incarnate as a child
Laying aside divine behavior
Frailness taking, meek and mild
Here we wait in expectation
Now from Heaven to earth descend
From Thy sweet celestial station
Come to be our loving friend

Born Thy people to deliver
Born a child and yet a King
Born to reign in us forever
Now Thy gracious kingdom bring

By Thine own eternal Spirit

Rule in all our hearts alone

By Thine all sufficient merit

Raise us to Thy glorious throne

Corporate Prayer

READING OF THE WORD – ISaiah 40:1-8

At the conclusion of the reading, the speaker will say, “The Word of the Lord,” to which we all reply:
Thanks Be To God

SONG: SINGING IN THE VICTORY

I will not be anxious, Jesus you are near
The peace of God surrounding me, casting out all fear
The hand that holds the Heavens is the mighty hand that saves
The voice that calms the storming seas is calling me by name

I’m singing in the victory the victory of the cross
Resting in the shadow of Your redeeming love
I’m standing on the promise the promise of new life
'Cause I am Yours forever and Jesus You are mine
Jesus You are mine!

When I have forgotten the fullness of Your grace
Yes I remember Calvary when You took my place

There is no one like You God, love immeasurable and strong
There is no one like You God, so lead this heart to sing in awe

There is no one like You God, love immeasurable and strong
There is no one like You God, so lead this heart to sing in awe

SONG: COME BEHOLD HIS WONDROUS MYSTERY

Come behold the wondrous mystery, in the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven’s praises, robed in frail humanity
In our longing, in our darkness, now the light of life has come
Look to Christ, who condescended, took on flesh to ransom us.

Come behold the wondrous mystery, he the perfect Son of Man
In his living, in his suffering, never trace nor stain of sin
See the true and better Adam, come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment of the law, in him we stand.

Come behold the wondrous mystery, Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners hangs the Lamb in victory
See the price of our redemption, see the Father’s plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory, grace unmeasured, love untold

Come behold the wondrous mystery, slain by death the God of life
But no grave could e’er restrain him, praise the Lord, He is alive!
What a foretaste of deliverance, how unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected, as will we be when he comes.

Sermon: waiting on HOPE - 2 PETER 3:8-15

Communion

Song: O come, O come, Emmanuel,

O come, o come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny;
From depths of hell thy people save,
And give them victory o'er the grave.

O come, thou Dayspring from on high
And cheer us by thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.

Benediction:

May we be compelled by the love of God, the gospel of Jesus, and the presence of the Holy Spirit to pursue His mission for our good and His glory.
